2016 CRMC Nurse of Excellence Information

Dear CAPN Members:

The CAPN Board wanted to address some of the comments/concerns raised regarding the voting process for our Nurse of Excellence (NOE) selection. First of all, the organizers of the NOE did not provided any criteria for selection of the candidate. While there is not a current policy or specific criteria currently, CAPN has "viewed" the criteria in a broader way for those with advanced degrees.

This would include excellence in any of the following areas:

• Practice
• Nursing Education
• Administration
• Policy
• Informatics
• Service to our profession, organization, community

Typically CAPN has included active members including retirees who have demonstrated excellence in one or more of these areas. Students have not previously been considered. There is currently no policy about those who have previously been selected, but it is reasonable to not select someone who most recently was selected in order to allow other deserving members to be selected.

With this, we want to encourage and recognize members who have excelled in these areas and demonstrated excellence. Therefore, for the 2016 selection, we would like to include all of those members who were nominated (including one that was not processed due to a computer mishap). We also would like to give our members the opportunity to be considered through the nomination process, with the inclusion of a brief supportive statement from the nominator.

THEREFORE, we are requesting that you VOTE through our ONLINE SURVEY which will be available from the morning of MONDAY, 4/25/16 through MIDNIGHT TUESDAY, 4/26/16. You should vote again even if you previously voted at the 4/21/16 dinner meeting. This is a very quick turnaround – as we must submit the name of the winner to the organizers by the end of this week.

The nominees will be invited to the banquet and the selected member will be announced at the banquet. Then it will be posted at on our website for all to see. We would like to start the tradition of having the NOE from the previous year introduce the current winner.

Again, look for the Survey Link to vote. We encourage EVERYONE eligible to vote to participate in selection of he CAPN Nurse of Excellence.

For our future – we hope to draft a policy that guides us. We welcome your feedback to help shape this policy.
