Position Description

Position: Child Protection Team Medical Provider (APRN or PA)

Qualifications:

Licensure in the state of Florida to practice professional nursing and certification in advanced or specialized pediatrics or family medicine nursing practice.

Experience in the evaluation and treatment of child abuse and neglect or agreement to receive training deemed necessary for evaluating alleged abuse and neglect.

Description:

The Child Protection Team functions under the Department of Health and is comprised of trained Medical Providers and Forensic Interviewers who work as a team to assess alleged victims of abuse and neglect throughout Circuit 1 (Escambia Co., Santa Rosa Co., Okaloosa Co. and Walton Co.).

Child Protection Team (CPT) Medical Providers (APRN or PA) are responsible for providing diagnostic evaluations and medical consultations regarding abused and neglected children.  Examinations are provided at the Child Advocacy Centers (CACs) located throughout Circuit 1: The primary location for this position is in Niceville, FL with travel as needed to DeFuniak Springs, FL and Pensacola, FL.  Diagnostic evaluations require assessment of various alleged maltreatments to include physical abuse (bruises, burns, fractures and internal injuries) medical neglect, failure to thrive, Munchausen by proxy, global neglect (developmental delay) and sexual abuse at the request of The Department of Children and Families and/or Law Enforcement for the purpose of assisting with those investigations.  Medical Providers are expected to render a diagnosis/finding with regards to child maltreatment based on forensic evidence.   While the APRN office is located at the CAC, evaluations are also provided at area hospitals for patients in the ER and for those admitted due to their illness or injury.  CPT works with the FDLE biology lab to provide up to date training on Sexual Assault Kit collection on an annual basis.

This position requires on-call/after hour coverage (approximately 1 week/every 5 weeks) that involves weekend response to both Niceville and Pensacola CAC locations. NOTE: Base salary does not include on-call compensation.  Medical Providers are also relied on for court testimony in both dependency (shelter/removal) and criminal proceedings.  Attention to detail and concise documentation skills are a must as every evaluation is accompanied by a detailed report to include recommendations/care plans to mitigate risk to the child.

CPT offers a robust training program under the direction of our Medical Director/Pediatrician for those interested in working in this very rewarding field of child abuse medicine.

No person shall, on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age or disability be subjected to discrimination by the Child Protection Center, Inc. Accommodations and/or auxiliary aids will be provided for individuals with disabilities and/or who are deaf or hard of hearing.
